An adult day health care program primarily for seniors with dementia that was slated to close will remain open under new ownership in an eleventh-hour deal that reflects the intense demand for senior services in the Bay Area. The announcement last month that Alta Bates Summit Medical Center was shutting day health care along with other programs in a cost-cutting move drew an outcry from the public and participating families. Although other day health care programs exist, there was simply not enough capacity in the East Bay to absorb the displaced seniors, experts said.
