Using multiple choice questions and answers, users are asked to identify arrhythmia tracings. Digital calipers are available to assist in analyzing each EKG practice strip. Feedback is provided after each response.
For many nursing students and new nurses EKG interpretation can be intimidating, to say the least. I remember my first day as a nurse in the ICU. To say that I was overwhelmed is a pretty big understatement.
ECG Interpretation Experience takes a long time to acquire in the field. Our philosophy is that the skill and efficiency of electrocardiogram ECG interpretation come with practice. We developed this educational module to improve the quality and rapidity of ECG interpretation by physicians, nurses, paramedics, medical and nursing students, among others.
Increasing payer scrutiny over diagnostic interpretations and continued belt-tightening at the private payer level has resulted in a resurfacing of the EKG interpretation payment issue for emergency physicians. There is no doubt that the interpretation of diagnostic tests for ED patients is an invaluable service. Thus, two very separate issues remain. The answer is "yes" for Medicare and varies from one private payer to the next.
These are the comments I hear over and over again prior to teaching ACLS classes, both original and recertification. Many people are intimidated by EKGs and unclear on the proper way to interpret a dysrhythmia in lead II. This basic review may benefit others as well.
Welcome to our atrial fibrillation reference page. This page provides a definition followed by an synopsis of EKG features. Links to our practice drills, quizzes, lessons and interactive guides can be found below.
Assuming that most of you reading this blog do not have that much time, please allow me to share what I have discovered in my years teaching ECGs to make the process more simple — and maybe even enjoyable. I imagine it is understood that learning all of ECG interpretation is going to take more than 10 minutes of your time and that it is not quite so easy. To be proficient, it will take a bit of effort.
It is a quick and painless procedure. EKGs captures a tracing of cardiac electrical impulse as it moves from the atrium to the ventricles. These electrical impulses cause the heart to contract and pump blood. EKGs are interpreted by medical professionals to understand the following:.
Joinsubscribers and get a daily digest of news, geek trivia, and our feature articles. The Human heart is a two-stage pump, divided into two sides. The muscles surrounding these two chambers are triggered by two nodes: the sinoatrial SA node and the atrioventricular AV node.
Confirm the name and date of birth of the patient matches the details on the ECG. Hint: If there are obviously P-waves present, check the ventricular rate and the atrial rate. The rates will be the same if there is AV conduction. Mark out several consecutive R-R intervals on a piece of paper, then move them along the rhythm strip to check if the subsequent intervals are the same.
